Though sometimes described as stubborn, I observed the donkeys as one of the most hardworking animals. At Petra, Jordan, donkeys ascended rocky steps and narrow terrain in the desert heat. They climbed seemingly effortlessly with baggage or a human riding on their backs. According to the Middle East Eye, as of March last year, new projects underway aim to improve the lives of the horses and donkeys at Petra, including new measures to improve treatment and conditions for them.
